This Washington, DC law firm is looking for a Paralegal who enjoys the investigative side of legal work and the challenge of bringing order to complicated matters. Working alongside attorneys and other legal support professionals, you will help transform large amounts of information into useful working materials, prepare for important proceedings, and keep the details behind each case from falling through the cracks. The position is well suited to someone who wants to build a strong foundation in litigation support while contributing to a close-knit team handling demanding legal matters. A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of law firm experience are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build a working understanding of each matter by tracing relevant facts, reviewing available records, and pulling together information attorneys can use.
- Turn case materials into practical reference tools, including timelines, document indexes, and summaries of important people or events.
- Help prepare the team for key moments in a case by assembling supporting materials and attending to the details surrounding hearings, depositions, and trials.
- Check that written legal materials are consistent, properly presented, and ready for the next stage of review.
- Locate relevant background information to help attorneys prepare for different courts and jurisdictions.
- Keep discovery efforts moving by monitoring incoming materials, maintaining progress reports, and helping establish workable systems for document review.
- Coordinate information and materials from clients and external contacts.
- Prepare legal paperwork and assist with the final assembly of court materials, exhibits, and supporting documents.
- Keep case information accessible and current, following established practices for documentation, timekeeping, and administration.
- Assist the administrative team with additional assignments when workload or staffing needs change.
Why You’ll Love Working Here:
- A meaningful role in the work behind complex, high-stakes legal matters beyond routine administrative support, giving you exposure to different phases of litigation.
- Work closely with attorneys and legal support colleagues who rely on one another to keep matters moving.
- Strengthen your research, case preparation, and document management skills as your experience grows.
- A hybrid schedule offering a blend of in-office collaboration and remote work.
What We’re Looking For:
- Degreed and prepared. You hold a bachelor’s degree and bring at least two years of experience supporting legal work in a law firm.
- Investigative. You like following a question through, locating useful information, and understanding how the pieces fit together.
- Precise. You notice inconsistencies, check details carefully, and take pride in producing dependable work.
- Cooperative. You enjoy contributing to a shared effort and understand the importance of dependable support across a team.
- Articulate. You organize information and communicate it clearly to people with different needs and priorities.
- Discerning. You use good judgment when handling sensitive records and confidential case information.
- Dedicated. You take responsibility for your work and can accommodate occasional schedule changes or travel when case demands call for it.
